Functional Movement Screens (FMS)
New research is showing us how we move is as important as moving. If we are not moving properly or are moving with compensations we become prone to injury and may not reach our full performance potential.
There are two new evaluation processes to determine your quality of movement: the Functional Movement Screen (FMS) and the Standardized Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA).
The FMS is perfect for an athlete or someone looking to start any type of fitness program who is not currently having pain. This screen determines deficits in our basic stability and mobility patterns and allows us to develop an appropriate training program to not only prevent injury but to also progress sport specific performance. Restorations PT offers this screen along with a person training program on a cash basis. Please call for an appointment and pricing.
The SFMA is appropriate for anyone having pain of any sort. It consists of a series of tests that help us to pinpoint dysfunctional movement anywhere in the body that may be causing the pain. It can help to develop the proper treatment program for injuries but specifically is good for those patients who have been “chasing the pain.” These patients have one injury after another. Either the injury improves only to return, or as one injury subsides another body part begins to hurt. The SFMA can identify the movement dysfunction that may be the root of this injury cycle. Restorations PT offers this screen as appropriate for patients already under our care.
